"I
make paintings of landscape in a contemporary manner deriving
source material from locations in the Scarborough, North York
Moors and coastal areas.
My
overall methodology involves finding a balance between representation
and abstraction and this is done by making specific reference
to the particularities of location and the manipulation of
formal elements, in particular, the transformation of grids
and geometrical schemata. Colour use is emphatic to
extend the range of mood and meaning.
My
intention is to make transactions between the organic and
the ordered, and the ambition is to create metaphors for the
complex layering of relationships between ourselves and the
common ground we share and care for."
